Today was a good day.
Started off down with a bunch of preschoolers, serving the last week of my short 4 week stint. Fun group of children, but like herding kittens. Then for the second hour it was time for the contemporary service of the Batavia Church of Christ.
Attendance looked good from my perspective, which is opposite of what I was envisioning.... a couple nursery workers had said they wouldn't be there, so I was worrying it was a trend. But it was an interesting sermon, as Mike Derico was preaching on hurt. Getting over pain in your life, unlike most Sundays the congregation was very quiet. I'm a people watcher and it was interesting to see the focus on the sermon people had... none of the normal fidgeting. I think it hit home for some folks. Then the icing on the cake. Adam and Kelly, some long time friends of ours from our first church placed membership at BCC.
Adam and Kelly were a learning experience for me in when I first left the Cincinnati church I wanted them to leave right away. But they stayed around and I matured a bit in my thinking about if they should leave or not... basically it wasn't bad for them where they were at and they had a good stable of friends. But Adam and I stayed in touch, you know like friends do, and then several months ago I got an email from Adam saying... "Hey, we are looking for a new church... lets talk." So we talked, and I tried to stay very neutral in their search. While I am/was happy to see them each week at church, I know that a church isn't right for everybody and let it be known that my wife and I wouldn't be offended if they decided to go elsewhere. It will be fun to see this couple of two become a family ;-).
